The combination of Elizabeth’s education in science, nutrition, herbal medicine and reproductive medicine, along with her collaborative work with a number of Sydney’s top fertility specialists, have provided her with a unique perspective on hormonal and reproductive health. Continue readingOn today’s Healthy Bite, I reflect on my conversation with Jessica Pin, her experience with labiaplasty, societal ideas around “normal”, the role of social media, the lack of medical education around female anatomy (which is shocking) and the importance of really listening to our patients.
Continue readingJessica Pin had a labiaplasty at 18. The surgeon went on to perform an extra part of the operation that she did not consent to…..and things went wrong. Rather than listen to what she was experiencing post-operatively and explore what might have gone wrong, he denied anything physically had occurred and suggested her symptoms were purely psychological.
This led Jessica to question many things; the information she had been given about our ideas around “normal” available to us all on the internet; the medical profession listening to patient real problems; a lack of validation that her symptoms were indeed physical; the medical education system in general and superficially how much does a specialist gynaecologist/obstetrician (even a female specialist) know about the female anatomy. The answers may shock you.
This is an important conversation that also addresses cosmetic surgery, the influence of the internet and social media, the scope of basic anatomy and its role in medical training and clitoracy, a subject every adult, male and female should know about.
In this episode, we discussed her personal experience with labiaplasty, how little to no information the internet and textbooks have about the female reproductive anatomy, and so much more.
Continue readingWelcome to another Healthy Bite. This week on the podcast, we released a very informative episode with Dr Jim Parker, an obstetrician-gynaecology, and we talked about women’s health. What is empowering and relevant to this week’s discussion with Jim was the powerful impact of a nutrient-dense diet.
Join me as we talk about the idea of an integrative approach to specialities within medicine, is now becoming built-in to practice. I have also included a couple of practitioners that asre specialists who are doing just that.
